Facts about Gin
An intoxicating beverage. The word 'Gin' derives from the Old French word 'geneva' meaning juniper. It is a colorless alcoholic liquor which was originally distilled, or redistilled, from rye and adding juniper berries as flavoring. Other flavoring, or aromatics, were also added such as anise, caraway seeds, or angelica root.

The type of Gin called 'Tanqueray Gin' dates back to 1830 when Charles Tanqueray produced a recipe of botanicals and became a London dry Gin distiller. The recipe for Tanqueray is made with juniper berries, coriander, angelica and other secret botanicals. In 1898, Tanqueray was amalgamated with the Gordon's gin distillery.

Type of Gin - Hendricks Gin
The type of Gin called 'Hendricks Gin' is produced by William Grant & Sons in Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland. The Hendricks recipe dates back to the 1800's and uses various botanicals for flavor which include a hint of Bulgarian Rose followed by an essence of cucumber.

The type of Gin called 'Gordons Gin' is produced in the United Kingdom and under license in New Zealand. The secret recipe for Gordons dates back to 1769 when a Scot called Alexander Gordon developed the recipe and opened a distillery in Clerkenwell, London.

Type of Gin - Beefeater Gin
The type of Gin called 'Beefeater Gin' is produced in the United Kingdom. The secret recipe for Beefeater dates back to 1820 when a Londoner called James Burrough developed the recipe and opened a distillery in Chelsea, London. The distillery took the name from the Tower of London yeoman who are called the Beefeaters (the early Warders at the Tower were partly paid in beef ). The secret recipe for Beefeater includes juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica and orange and lemon peels.

Type of Gin - Plymouth Gin
The type of Gin called 'Plymouth Gin' is produced by Plymouth, Coates & Co at the Black Friars Distillery in Plymouth, England. The recipe dates back to 1793. The Black Friars Distillery dates back to 1431 and is reputed to be where the Pilgrim Fathers spent their final night before they set sail to the New World.

Type of Gin - Bombay Sapphire Gin
The type of Gin called 'Bombay Sapphire Gin' is produced by the Bombay Spirits Company, Ltd. which have been established since 1761. Bombay Sapphire is a distilled London Dry Gin and is 94 proof.  Bombay Sapphire is distilled with ten botanicals. The recipe for Bombay Sapphire consists of ten ingredients: almond, lemon peel, liquorice, juniper berries, orris root, angelica, coriander, cassia, cubeb, and grains of paradise. The alcohol vapours are passed through bundles of the herbs and spices in order to gain flavour and aroma.
